El Parque Manuel Antonio ... L'incontournable - The inescapable

Le parc National Manuel Antonio est le plus petit des parcs nationaux costaricain mais, c'est aussi le plus achalandé! Un parc de plages et de forêts en bord de mer. Un de mes préférés! La minuscule plage de sable blanc m'a charmé dès ma première visite en 1998. 

Manuel Antonio offre la possibilité d'observer plusieurs des animaux emblématiques du pays tel que les singes à face blanches (capucins), les singes hurleurs, les singes écureuils, les paresseux et plusieurs espèces d'oiseaux. Les paysages y sont magnifiques!

Manuel Antonio National Park is the smallest of all the costarican national parks but it's the busiest. It's a park dedicated to beaches and sea side forest. It's one of my favorites! I was charmed by the tiny white sand beach the first time I set foot on it, back in 1998.

In Manuel Antonio we can see some of the trademarks animals of the country like the withe face monkey, the howler monkey,, the squirel monkey, the sloth and a large variety of birds. The landscapes are amazing!

Un iguane ou un ctenosaura?  An iguana or a ctenosaura?

First time visitors to Costa Rica might confound Ctenosaurs with Green Iguanas, as they are difficult to distinguish. Ctenosaurs, however lack the peculiar head spines and crest (but they do have spines on their back) and are of darker colours. The ctenosaurs’ habitat are dry areas. Like green iguanas, they are mainly herbivores (but they do feed on occasional lizards or small mammals). They are of similar length (up to over 1 m incl. tail) but more active than green iguanas and hence better hunters.

Interesting Facts:

With a speed of 35 km/h the Costa Rican “ctenosaura similis” actually attained the local sprint record.

Après une journée à profiter des attraits du parc, nous nous sommes retrouvés au restaurant Balu, un endroit rustique très typique! Une bonne bouffe en regardant le coucher de soleil.

After a full day spent enjoying the park, we ended up at the Balu retaurant, a very rustic and typical place. We had a good meal looking at the sunset.

Tyroliennes - Zipline

Sky Montain Canopy

Tout près de Parrita il y a un endroit où l'on peut voler entre les arbres. Il y a des tyroliennes; ces câbles tendus entre deux ancres qui vous supportent entre ciel et terre. Le site se nomme Sky Montain Canopy Tour Il y a 6 câbles de 150 à 800 mètres de long, on y survole une vallée à plus de 300 mètres d'altitude. Montée d'adrénaline garantie!

Near the town of Parrita there is a place where one can fly between the trees. There are Ziplines. These cables are fixed to anchors and support you between earth and sky! This place is called Sky Montain Canopy. There are 6 cables from 150 to 800 meters in length, we're flying over a valley at more than 300 metres high. Adrenaline rush garantied!

Bleu Azul

Cette année nous logeons à Bleu Azul. Une magnifique demeure sur la plage d'Esterillos. Une maison de deux étages, la propriétaire habite le premier et il y a quatre studios à l'étage. Nous faisons face au Pacifique. Voici quelques photos!

This year we are staying at Bleu Azul. A wonderful home on Esterillos's beach. It's a two stories house. The owner lives on the first floor and there are four studios on the second level. We are facing the Pacific Ocean. Let look at the pictures ...

Christine, notre hôte, est aussi chef de son restaurant; Le Vargas. Le soir de notre arrivée elle a eu la charmante idée de nous proposer de faire préparer des tapas (entrées variées) pour nous six. Une proposition aussi alléchante a été acceptée sans délais. Un excellent repas après une longue journée fut très apprécié.

Christine, our host, is also the chef at her restaurant; "Le Vargas". The night of our arrival, she proposed to prepared some tapas (variaty of entries) for us at her restaurant. Such a good proposition was accepted without delay. It was a wonderful meal.

Cette année encore nous passons nous vacances hivernales sous le chaud soleil du Costa Rica. Nous aimons profondément ce pays, sa nature luxuriante, ses plages envoûtantes, ses oiseaux et ses animaux exotiques, sans oublier sa population accueillante. C'est la dix-septième fois que nous y atterrissons. Comment dire.... pour nous, il s'agit de l'endroit idéal pour prendre nos vacances, pour décompresser, pour relaxer.

This year, once again we're spending our winter vacation under the hot Costa Rican sun. We just love this country, its luxurious nature, its mesmerizing beaches, its exotic birds and creatures and its lovely population. It's the seventeenth time that we land here. Needless to say, it is the ideal vacation spot for us!

Se réveiller à 2h45 mardi matin... c'est très tôt! Disons que c'est souvent l'heure à laquelle je vais me coucher. Notre vol décolle à 6h00 de l'aéroport Pierre Élliott Trudeau. Ils nous conseillent d'y être deux heures à l'avance. Lundi soir j'ai fait notre pré-enregistrement sur Internet. Il nous nous reste qu'à enregistrer les bagages. 3h15 le taxi arrive et nous partons pour l'aéroport. Il y a une file d'attente pour l'enregistrement des bagages mais, tout ce passe bien. Moins d'une heure plus tard, nous sommes dans la dernière file... celle de l'immigration. 5h15 nous sommes à la porte d'embarquement pour notre premier vol : Montréal - Miami. Tout ce passe comme prévu. Ça va tellement bien que nous arrivons 30 minutes en avance sur l'horaire à Miami. Il a fallu attendre une quinzaine de minutes que la porte qui nous était dédiée se libère avant de descendre.

Waking up at 2:45 am Tuesday morning... it's very early! Let's just say that it's the time I often go to bed. Our flight leaves at 6:00 am from Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport. They advise us to be there two hours prior to take off. Monday I had done the pre-registering on Internet. We only need to register the luggage. 3:15 am the taxi is at our door and off we go to the airport. There's a line at the luggage registration but, everything is going fine. Less than an hour later we are in the last line, the one going through immigration. At 5:15 am we are at the gate for our first flight : Montreal - Miami. Everything goes smoothly, so well in fact that we arrive almost 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. We have to wait about 15 minutes for the gate to be free and ready for our plane.

Ce voyage-ci est spécial, nous avons de la grande visite. Nos amis de Nouvelle Zélande (Helen et Grant ainsi que Christine et Terry) nous rejoignent à Miami et nous prenons ensemble le vol qui nous mène à San Jose. Comme prévu, nous nous retrouvons tous les six à la porte d'embarquement de notre deuxième et dernier vol de la journée. Des retrouvailles très attendues! Nous ne les avons pas vu depuis plusieurs années. Parle parle, jase jase, il est temps d'embarquer. Malgré quelques turbulences un peu avant l'atterrissage, tout c'est passé à merveille. Un voyage sans aucun délai, sans pépin. La plus longue file d'attente fut celle pour passer à l'immigration à notre arrivée à San Jose. Jacques et moi n'avions jamais vu autant de monde en même temps dans cette salle. Mais, nous en avons profité pour placoter un bon coup avec nos amis. Une fois les bagages ramassés et la douane franchie, nos véhicules nous attendaient. Après les formalités d'usage nous étions près à partir, destination la côte Pacifique.

This trip is a special one, we're having friends over. They're coming from New Zealand (Helen & Grant and Christine & Terry). We're all meeting in Miami's airport at the gate  for our flight to San Jose Costa Rica. As planned the six of us meet at the gate. We haven't seen each other for a few years, we have some catching up to do! After some animated conversation it's time to board the plan. In spite of some turbulences the flight went well. The longest line yet awaits us to pass the Costa Rican immigration. In all our years of travel in this country we have never encountered so many people waiting there. We make good of it anyway, it gives us time to talk and talk... Once trough immigration we collect our luggage and go trough custom in minutes. The guys from the rental company are waiting for us with two SUV. After the usual formalities, we're ready to start our trip down to the Pacific coast.
